Prostate Cancer and Diet
Speaker: Rachel Bracegirdle, Oncology Dietitian, Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust
This webinar will explore the most up to date evidence on the dietary and lifestyle factors linked to prostate cancer prevention and progression. Dietary recommendations for men with prostate cancer, including specific recommendations for men undergoing different treatments will be covered. Practical suggestions to enable men to implement the dietary recommendations will also be discussed.
Rachel Bracegirdle studied Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Surrey. She started her career at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford. Working in this tertiary centre for cancer enabled Rachel to work with oncology patients early on in her career and resulted in her specialising in this area. Rachel is now working as a specialist oncology dietitian at Guy's Hospital, London. She supports patients with a variety of tumour sites, including men with prostate cancer. Rachel sees patients in the inpatient and outpatient setting who are undergoing active or palliative treatment. Nutritional support and ensuring effective symptom management are key areas of her role. Rachel’s role also has a huge emphasis on survivorship; supporting patients living with and after cancer. She has a strong interest in weight management and promoting a healthy lifestyle. She leads a 10 week weight management programme for cancer survivors, which is designed to empower patients to make lifelong diet, lifestyle and behaviour changes. This programme is based on current research around diet post cancer treatment. Rachel therefore frequently has to keep herself up to date with this ever evolving topic.
