Thankyou_collage It could only be our amazing volunteers. When I joined the charity nearly three and a half years ago, I remember my first week pretty vividly. I’m sure I wasn’t the first or last person to feel nervous to impress, to fit in, to feel like you’re doing a good job. But then I was lucky enough to hear one of our volunteer speakers, Ross, tell his story. Not only was he a  warm and passionate speaker, but he even managed to add humour to a tough story about his feelings when diagnosed and telling his kids ‘daddy’s got cancer’. It made a lasting impression on me and put my small worries about starting a new job into perspective. It also really helped me understand why we do what we do.

Weeks later I was looking through one of our information booklets and there was Ross again, in a photo with his kids. Then I was scrolling through our Facebook page and saw a line of freezing cold bucket shakers at one of our Football League games - and wait - was that Ross again? It’s nothing short of inspirational just how many things one person could be involved in. But do you know what the best part is? That we’re lucky enough to have thousands of volunteers across the UK, just like Ross, who give so much time, energy and dedication to supporting Prostate Cancer UK. The Geoffs, the Jeans, the Malcolms, the Kenneths, the Chrises, the Allys, the Martins, the Viviens, the Christines, the Errols, the Dentons, the Johns – I could go on forever. What you do for us is astonishing. From offering one-to-one support over the phone to cheering thousands of our runners to get to that finish line. From making sure all of our booklets are easy to understand to giving talks about risks, signs and awareness of prostate cancer from Lands End to John O’Groats. The breadth of what you do is remarkable and the impact invaluable. And it's not just me who wants to say thank you. Here's some more of us here at Prostate Cancer UK who could'nt do our job without you... "You really are amazing.
