A special supplement dedicated to prostate cancer, which appeared in The Daily Mirror on Tuesday 19 March 2013, has helped to raise awareness of the most common cancer in men, already sparking a record number of calls to Prostate Cancer UK's confidential helpline.

The informative eight page one-off supplement was rich with content covering all aspects of the disease from warning signs to look out for, developments in research, personal experiences and fundraising opportunities.

It featured key interviews with supporters including with comedian Jon Culshaw who talked about why spreading the word about the high odds of getting prostate cancer is so important, and why he is backing Prostate Cancer UK's Sledgehammer Fund.

Specialist nurse John Robertson, who featured in the article and responded to many of the calls which flooded in to the helpline as a result of the supplement said: "Raising awareness of prostate cancer is incredibly important and I was delighted to take part in this supplement to help spread the word. It was extremely heartening to see the immediate response, with an unprecedented number of calls coming in to our helpline. Knowing the message was reaching those who need it most and encouraging them to seek help, is exactly what this is all about".
