Comedy legend Billy Connolly has revealed that he has been given the all clear by doctors after being successfully treated for prostate cancer. The 70 year old Scottish comedian announced last month that he had been diagnosed with the early stages of the disease and has since undergone a surgical operation in America.
Prostate Cancer UK Chief Executive Owen Sharp said: "It’s great to hear that Billy has been given the all clear. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer amongst men and yet too often we hear that men simply don’t feel comfortable discussing it. By speaking out about his treatment Billy has put another crack in the stigma surrounding the condition. Prostate cancer can be treated if caught early enough so we need nothing less than a sea change in attitudes in order to save men’s lives.
Prostate cancer kills one man every hour but sadly there are too few treatments for those with the advanced stage of the condition. As we fight for more effective drugs and eventually a cure, Prostate Cancer UK is creating a movement to bring about real change for men. Together we can win this."
